Joe Devlin
Seizing new opportunities
As a Temple University graduate, Joe Devlin accepted a position in NSM’s claims department in 2014. Although he found success and growth quickly, Joe wasn’t sure if claims was the right path for him. He took action and approached management with a new area of interest — underwriting. “This was the moment I decided I would want to stay and further develop my career at NSM,” he says. “Not only did the senior leadership team allow me to make this transition, but they were super supportive during the whole process and really encouraged me.” NSM always wants the best for their employees and supports individuals throughout their journey of finding the best career fit. Joe says that this was the ultimate selling point for him to firmly plant his roots at NSM.

Today, Joe is a Senior Program Underwriter with our ATP program, which covers the behavioral health sector. He is responsible for servicing a renewal book while also handling any new business that comes in. “The best way to build success is by taking pride and accountability for your own work.” Joe says you don’t really know when the work stops and the fun begins some days at NSM. There is a great balance of working hard and playing hard, which motivates people to want to stay and continue to grow. The biggest piece of advice that Joe would give to anyone looking to grow their career is to speak up, you never know where it could lead you.
