Success Stories
Mikaela Bakey
Pushing yourself to grow
When members of the NSM team went to St. Joseph’s University to speak with students in the Risk Management and Insurance program, they caught the attention of then junior, Mikaela Bakey. Inspired by their presentation, Mikaela made connections with the NSM team members which prompted her to apply for the summer internship program in 2017. “One of the key takeaways from my internship experience was continuously pushing myself out of my comfort zone, seeking new opportunities and building connections within NSM.” Mikaela says, “I really enjoyed the company culture from day one, and I built impactful relationships at NSM which led me to my position today, over six years later.”
After completing her internship, Mikaela stayed at NSM part-time working with the operations department. Right before graduating college, Mikaela interviewed and took a full-time position as an underwriting analyst in 2018. This is where Mikaela began her journey and started building her success with ATP’s small business accounts. About a year ago, Mikaela was promoted to Program Underwriter. When did Mikaela know that NSM would be a place she would want to stay at? The first day she stepped foot into the office. Mikaela comes from a large Irish family and immediately felt that NSM has a similar large family feel.
“I really enjoyed the company culture from day one, and I built impactful relationships at NSM which led me to my position today, over six years later.”
Mikaela builds success at NSM in several ways, but mainly through acts of service and kindness. She gets involved in the many things that go on at NSM, including yoga classes, the company softball team and The Ben to The Shore Bike Tour — NSM’s largest philanthropic initiative. After a few years of volunteering for the event, Mikaela started riding and is now NSM’s Team Captain. “I’m not in it to be the fastest, I simply want to complete the ride while having a great time doing it — especially because it’s for such a tremendous organization.”
